The preparations for the Olympics 2008 in Beijing are running in high gear. Not only athletes adjust their training programs already according to the Beijing schedule, also the sports food industry entered the final lap in developping legal performance enhancers. One of them is the Dutch company DMS. Right in the centre of its concern stands the immune system, the immune system as one of the body's prerequisites to be able to perfom at best level.
I follow this development with great satisfaction, and, I hope that this trend of immunity moving straight into the centre of an athletes major issues may also support biestmilch to achieve adequate acceptance.
DSM hopes its ingredient can be used by Dutch athletes to beat high temperatures and humidity as they train for next year’s Olympics in Beijing. The company said their probiotic will be available to the country’s team and have been developed in partnership with the Dutch Olympic Committee/Dutch Sports Federation (NOC/NSF).
It is the first in a series of innovations being drawn up by this collaboration as part of the Olympic Innovation Program. The products is a special grade Lafti probiotics, which combines lactic acid bacterial strains to help athletes boost their natural resistance and maintain a well-balanced intestinal environment.
DSM said: “Top athletes are often prone to develop intestinal complaints and a weakened immune system, particularly in extreme weather conditions such as in China. These physical complaints can have an adverse effect on their performance.”
A program is already underway to test the probiotic on athletes who are suffering or have suffered from complaints relating to their intestinal tract or their immune system.
Biestmilch outweighs probiotics
There is no doubt that probiotics taken on a regular basis have a positive effect on the mucosal lining of the gut. And as the gut has a dominant position in achieving and sustaining immune balance, probiotics support immunity. Biestmilch as well is able to stabilize the gut mucosa, but there is much more than these pro and prebiotic abilities. Biestmilch contains a variety of myriads of different molecules reaching form mucopolysaccharides to immunoglobulins and a huge diversity of messenger molecules that are of essential importance for inter cell communication.
Moreover, Biestmilch (colostrum) contains growth factors (e.g. IFG-1) which are pivotal for the transport of sugars into muscle tissue. This is definitely of special interest for athletes. Studies have been performed that underline the fact that IGF-1 levels none the less do not exceed physiological levels. Biestmilch is no dope!!! But biestmilch with its amazing versatility and complexity can be so supportive for everybody who is under extreme stress be it physical or mental.
