China 13: Nicole Leder on the run

Nicole is just a fabulous runner. After a disastrous bike ride at Ironman China she caught up on the run minute by minute. If you watch her, she is so very focused, mentally so very strong. To beat her in her favorite discipline is really hard. She herself uses to say: “Whatsoever may happen during a race, I know I can always run fast.”

This was now the last video clip from biestmilch’s exciting journey to the IRONMAN China.

China 07: Registering in Chinese 报到

Registering for an Ironman is the same all over the world. Nevertheless, in Haikou, China it had a special touch. If you cannot read, cannot understand, even routines may change their face. Have a look at Nicole Leder and Chris McCormack going through the registering procedure in Chinese. Sometimes it can be a relief not to be understood by any means ;-)

China 05: Nicole having a coffee break in the old town of Haikou

On the first day of our stay we accompanied Nicole on a walk through the old Haikou. The diversity in the streets really impressed us. All sorts of vehicles, people so different, that we began to realize that a Chinese is not an Chinese. We had coffee and tea in a place where only local men were having a cigarette and tea, and probably discussed daily politics.
What we learned from our coffee break is: better have tea break ;-)

China 03: Eating out Chinese

On our first day in Haikou we went for lunch in the old town of Haikou. Our driver brought us to a local restaurant. What an experience!

We had a whole duck cut into bits and pieces including the carcass. Thanks they had taken out the intestines which is not always the case. As a delicatessen we enjoyed the duck’s feet. Nicole and I were brave eating the little things while the guys hid behind our backs. Be that as it may, we had fun!

China 01: Traveling from the snow into the rain!

China 01: Traveling from the snow into the rain! from susann kräftner on Vimeo.

It was exactly one week ago when we packed our things to departure for China into a for us unknown realm.
We were traveling together with Nicole and Lothar Leder who were going to race Ironman China. Fritz and myself, the mini biestmilch film team, wanted to collect triathlon footage of a different kind, of a race taking place in a world we didn’t have a clue of except from the propaganda in our countries.
Everything turned out to be a little different than we had imagined. A positive experience the whole way through.
In this clip you get a short impression of our arrival at Haikou airport.
